Baroquelyn’s 2018-2019 Season Begins Sunday, September 23; More Dates Announced

2018-2019 marks Baroquelyn’s first full season, starting with its premiere event on Sunday, September 23, 2018 at 3 pm.

This baroque-themed concert series became an immediate hit during its initial peformance in November 2017. Spearheaded by Old First musical director Aleeza Meir, the concert features top-caliber musicians from around the corner and across the globe.

A successful Kickstarter campaign helped to make these  concerts a reality. The majority of the donations go to hiring outstanding musicians, who perform in concert halls around the world. The second biggest budget item is harpsichord rental, and one can’t perform baroque music properly without a good one. The third budget item is publicity expenses, which include online advertising, as well as printing concert posters, handbills, and programs. Graphic design services have generously been provided in-kind by John Klotnia of Opto Design.

The September 2018 performance begins with the remarkable, unaccompanied violin Passacaglia by Heinrich Ignaz Franz von Biber. From there, the concert gradually builds, piece by piece, from one lone instrument to a rousing finale of Vivaldi’s concerto for two trumpets.

Also included in the September concert will be fun recorder music, a cantata for countertenor and strings, the “Echo” sonata by Lotti for two oboes and bassoon, and more.

A reception will follow after the concert.
