Old First All Souls Service

UPDATE: This service has been postponed due to the weather until further notice

Pastor Jane Ann Groom leads a special service at Old First’s burial ground at Green-Wood Cemetery, with a litany of readings, prayers and music in remembrance of the dead. This special outdoor afternoon service is the second part of our All Saints Day worship service.  Our 11 AM virtual service will take place as usual.

All are welcome; please RSVP using this form if you plan to attend.  Please note that social distancing and mask wearing will be observed at all times.

For those walking or taking public transportation, meet at the cemetery entrance at 9th Avenue and 20th Street at 2:00 p.m. and walk to the plot together for the service. 

For those who are driving, you can use this map to drive directly to Cedar Dell, close to Old First’s plot. We will meet at Cedar Dell at 2:30.

(Reminder: Daylight Savings Time ends overnight between 10/31 and 11/1; set clocks accordingly!)

Please note: this afternoon service is not intended to replace the 11 AM virtual worship service, which will take place as usual.  In fact, the outdoor service may be seen as a “part two” for the virtual service.

Bulletins for the service will be provided on-site, and attendees may be invited to read aloud if they wish. 

This will be the first time that any of us have gathered in person as a congregation since March. The outdoor setting greatly reduces the risk of transmitting COVID-19, and we will still be observing all safety procedures, including both face masks and social distancing. Ushers will help to maintain safety procedures.

We understand that attendance will not be possible for some in our congregation, for a variety of reasons. We hope to make this only the first of many new and creative ways of gathering together safely during the pandemic.  Requests for prayers or names to be included in the service may be sent to newsletter@oldfirstbrooklyn.org.
