Baroquelyn Concert Success Continues Into 2019

Baroquelyn’s most recent concert, Sound the Trumpet, was a sold-out success on February 3 at Old First.

“I’m still glowing from our concert this Sunday,” says Baroquelyn creator Aleeza Meir. “It’s exactly the kind of afternoon I dreamed of when starting Baroquelyn a little over a year ago!”

The concert included trumpter Louis Ranger and his sister, Nancy Ranger. Jason Smoller joined them to perform Telemann’s joyful concerto for trumpet and two oboes. Also played was Handel’s Trumpet Suite in D and Bach’s cantata “Gott soll allein mein Herze haben.” Featured was Old First’s favorite countertenor Jeffrey Mandelbaum.

Did you attend? Share your thoughts about your experience on Baroquelyn’s Facebook page! Here’s one awesome comment (and very accurate): The concerts are wonderful, and the venue has great acoustics to hear it. Like an intimate house concert from the baroque period – seems very appropriate for the music

“I overheard a person from the audience say, ‘What a rich program,’ says Old First pastor Daniel Meeter. “Yes, the programming was intriguing and satisfying, with contrasts and complementarities. It was a rich feast of great variety, and what colors and textures from such a small but powerful group of musicians. Aleeza is showing us the magic of the Baroque—and not just JS Bach!”
